After our biggest harvest on record in 2018, it looks like we are on course for another good one for 2019!

Harvesting times vary every year, taking place normally around mid-September, but running as late as November, if temperatures have not been high enough during  the summer months.  Fortunately, due to dry, warm and settled conditions this summer, we are expecting another excellent year, with an abundance of grapes waiting to be turned into our 2019 vintage!

For our wine-makers, harvest means around five weeks of intense labour, working well into the night, seven days a week, whilst in the background, the grapes are being destalked, pressed and prepared for the fermentation process.

Fancy getting involved?  Our harvest is open to ALL volunteers, even if it’s just for an afternoon!  Our oldest grape-picker celebrated her 98th birthday with us last year, so you have no excuse!  Picking takes place every weekday for approximately 4 – 6 weeks beginning, usually, in September (date to be confirmed).  The morning session takes place between 9am – 12pm, followed by a break for lunch, then the afternoon session takes place between 1pm – 4pm.  All you need is a pair of gloves, a packed lunch (we provide the drinks), and a waterproof coat.  You may also prefer to bring along your own secateurs and low stool to sit on.

Although our harvesters are all volunteers, it doesn’t mean that we don’t look after them – each picker takes home a bottle of still wine of their choosing, per half-day that they work!
