After a very successful year in 2018 with our Co-operative Wine Scheme, which produced a beautiful Rosé Wine, we are now ready to receive your home-grown grapes again!
As an approximate guide, each kg of grapes brought in will produce 1 bottle of wine, which you will then be able to purchase for £3 (which covers the cost of wine-making and bottling) in 2020!
You can bring your grapes in anytime between 9am – 6pm, 7 days a week up until 31st October 2019. Just pop them into our Winery (not the shop please) and make sure you leave your details, and we will then contact you next year with collection details.
We look forward to seeing you….and your grapes!
How do I know when my grapes are ready to pick
Hi Idris, if your grapes are ripe they will taste fairly sweet (not as sweet as eating grapes though). If they are tart, or acidic to taste, then they are not ready.
Great news!
But my grapes aren’t quite ready yet – swelling nicely, quite sweet but pips are still very pale…I’ve been told they need to be darker as a good sign the grapes are ready for wine.
Hi Rob, that’s not a problem, we are accepting grapes up until the 31st October.
Hello, are you accepting grapes again this year? If so, when will this start as mine are ripening now!
Many thanks, Caroline
Hi Caroline, Yes we will be taking grapes for the cooperative this year however we have not yet got a date for people to drop off
Do all of the grapes have to be red or do you accept part red part green? Assuming the green ones are reasonably sweet.
Hi Jo, We accept both grape types, the wine will be a rose with the variety of grapes we receive.
Do I have to pick my grapes on the day I bring them or can I do it a bit in advance? And are they okay to be a bit wet from rain or not?
Hi Sarah, it would be better to bring them in freshly picked please, but if they are wet from rain, that is absolutely fine!
Have you a date for dropping off grapes
Hi Pauline, We are accepting grapes on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until 11th October.
Kind regards
Hi I’ve just dropped off some more grapes for the communal vat but think I may have for gotten to write down the weight this time – it was 20 kg
Thanks
Linda
Hi Linda, don’t worry about that, your grapes will be weighed in the winery anyway 🙂
What is the situation with regard to co-op wine production?
When will it be ready and do you provide a delivery service?
Hi Stuart, all who contributed to the cooperative wine will be contacted when it is ready. We may be able to deliver however there may be a charge.
We will be able to do contactless collection where you pay over the phone, come to collect and the wine is placed into your car for you.
When will I be notified to wine ready to own issued grapes last year 2019?
Hi Brian, When the wine is bottled and ready, all will be contacted.
Good day to all of the staff.
The 2018 harvest produced a lovely rose. Most enjoyable, my family approved (I had to share it ).
What news on this year’s. ?
Hi Harold, Sorry for the late response. The 2019 cooperative is now ready. If you have not yet collected please give us a call to arrange!
Good morning,
Could you advise me about the 2019 co-operative wine scheme please. When we delivered our 17 kilos of grapes, we were advised that someone would contact us in April (approximately) to say when we could pay for and collect the Rose wine. This being the first time that we have brought grapes to you, I am now wondering when we can collect our co-operative wine portion. I wonder if you might be able to help?
With kind regards
Jo
Hi Jo, sorry for the late reply. If you have not collected already the cooperative is now ready! Please give us a call to organise collection.
Hi, if I brought some grapes, do you process them as a separate batch please, or do they get combined with other people’s.
Thanks
Hi Joanne, They will be processed with other peoples grapes. We do a cooperative wine yearly where people bring grapes from their gardens and we then mix them all together to produce one wine.
HI, Are you taking grapes this year (2020)? If so can I please partake in your co-operative?
Hi Peter, we will be accepting grapes this year for the cooperative wine however we have not yet decided on a date for people to drop off.
Hi Team
As we’re now in September – can you confirm when you will be able
To start taking grapes for the co-operative pressing please – our grapes are weeks ahead of last year so ready to go if you are ( really enjoying last years wine and looking forward to some more Thanks Paul
Hi Paul,
We will be accepting grapes on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 18th September for 4 weeks.
Kind regards
My grapes are red and really small -are they acceptable to use?
Hi Sue,
They shouldn’t be too small, if you are unsure they should be nice and plump and have a bold colour. They should also taste slightly sweet.
Kind regards
Even in the high altitudes of Dudley the fruit is ripening early this year. The Regent grapes have 2 weeks at most by my reckoning.
Has a date been decided for us to bring the harvest to you yet?
Hi Chris,
We will be accepting grapes for the cooperative wine on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 18th September for 4 weeks.
Kind regards
Have you decided on a date yet to bring in grapes as ours are now ready
Hi Wendy,
We will be accepting grapes this year on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 18th September for 4 weeks.

Hello
I have some grapes that are nearly ripe. What do I do next?
Hi Marion, We are accepting grapes on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until the 11th October.
Kind regards
We brought our grapes ‘up’ from Kent for processing – 55 kg. of Phoenix (37 kg.) and from Wrotham Vines (18 kg. and said to be similar to Pinot Meunier). This was our first trip to Halfpenny Green. Clive kindly pointed us in the direction of a tasting of the Vineyard’s wines and a cheeseboard – and very enjoyable it was too.
If you are arranging vineyard visits for ‘home growers’ sometime in 2021 when – fingers crossed – circumstances will allow us to gather in groups, do please contact me, we would like to learn about how you ‘do it’. Thank you very much for the friendly welcome on our first visit – Brian
Our grape vine is very old and produces very small dark grapes that are sweet when eaten. Would they suitable for the cooperative? If so, we could pick them and drop them off over the weekend
Hi Jane,
We take any grapes for the cooperative, if you email the winery they will be able to arrange a date for you to drop off – winery@halfpennygreen.co.uk
Kind regards
Good morning,
Have you stopped accepting grapes for the collective now? I don’t have many but was hoping to bring some up, as we did last year – it just seemed later.
Jo
Hi Jane,
If you email the winery they may be able to arrange for you to come and drop off. – winery@halfpennygreen.co.uk
