Do you have a vine growing in your garden that goes to waste every year? No clue what to do with it, what variety it is, or even when the grapes are ready? No problem, we can help!
Each harvest we run a Co-Operative Scheme in our winery, where we dedicate a tank specifically to members of the public with their own grape vines, pressing their grapes and producing a wine for them! Whether just a few bunches, or bags full of grapes, it’s easy to get involved if you have a vine in your garden.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
From the first week of September (w/c Monday 3rd) we’ll be accepting grapes from members of the public. Simply pick the bunches off your vine and pop them in carrier bags, a box, or bin bags (if you’re absolutely flush with grapes), and bring them to our winery, which is open between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday – Friday. We’ll weigh your grapes and take your name and contact details.
We’ll press your grapes along with others, and put them into a tank to produce a wonderful rosé wine, which is usually ready around late spring the following year. At that point, we’ll get in touch to let you know that your wine is ready!
The amount of wine available to you is equal to the amount of grapes you bring in. For example, if you bring in 10 kilos of grapes, you’re entitled to collect 10 bottles of wine. The cost is just £3.00 per bottle, and you’re able to take as many or as few bottles as you like (up to you allowance). We do sometimes have extra bottles available for you to purchase over your allowance, at a slightly higher cost.
The wine comes to you in a clear, unlabelled bottle. Unfortunately for you budding entrepreneurs, the wine cannot legally be sold on, but you can of course donate it to family and friends… or keep it to yourself! For a small additional charge, we can also label the bottles for you.
So, if you fancy getting some wine from those back garden vines this autumn, don’t hesitate to bring us your grapes! Our winery will accept grapes Monday – Friday, between 8:30am and 4:30pm. We can sometimes accept grapes outside of these hours, but it’s best to get in touch beforehand just to be sure.
